IKARUS

By Frank Peter Hermsen

Like an angel high in the air

With melting wings and tears of thunder

We won“t dare to despair

Cause this is not the time to wonder

Dumb creatures on the ground

Crippled fingers in the dust

For us their screaming makes no sound

'Cause in our power we do trust

On wishfull wings across the seas

Melting in careless fantasies

Hope is the upwind that makes us fly

But too high

Too high

Blind guys with glassy eyes

Helplessness in stinking splendour

We can“t see tears when they cry

And our pride will not surrender

Cold shapes and senseless frames

Far beneath perish our friends

Leaving the world carved in chains

But our hope will never end

On wishfull wings across the seas

Melting in careless fantasies

Hope is the upwind that makes us fly

But too high

Too high

Far beyond any hate and fear

Where even thunder makes no sound

We set fire to our wings

And our blood colours the ground

On wishfull wings across the seas

Burning in careless fantasies

Hope was the upwind that made us fly

But too high

Too high
